1-3 Months Before the Visit

1

The most important thing is to prepare your students by familiarizing them with Miist before the visit. The more students know about Kamilla and her books, the more interested and enthusiastic they will be.

If you'd like an exciting, animated and enthusiastic reading of Miist for your classroom or homeschool, simply subscribe to Kamilla's YouTube Channel and get her chapter readings directly to your inbox.

2

Have students and librarians order books in time for Kamilla to sign at the visit. Ask us about the 25% school discount!

3

Use the free downloadable Teachers Guide to incorporate the upcoming school visit into a teaching unit.

4

Have students do projects based on Miist to build excitement and a sense of connection. This can include:

  • Visual displays such as collages representing scenes from the book

  •  Outlining a character's journey on the free downloadable map

  •  Welcome posters featuring characters from Miist (which Kamilla would be thrilled to sign!)

  • Students can even dress as favourite characters from the book!

5

Prepare the school and community by publicizing the event in print and social media.

6

Make sure you check the school schedule to make sure the visit won't be competing with assemblies, student pictures and/or other events that may conflict with, interrupt or reduce the audience.

The Day Before

1

Email Kamilla the proposed schedule, including where to meet, park, how to

avoid drop-off and pick-up lines etc.

2

Ensure an appropriate space for the presentation. A gymnasium is preferred so that it can go dark enough to play the video and allow for Kamilla's surprise entrance from the back. Check out her school visit below to get a visual.

ON THE DAY OF

1

Make sure to provide Kamilla's honorarium payment. Etransfer is preferred, but cheques are welcome.

2

Have someone greet Kamilla at the designated spot and time to show her where to go. Students serving as ushers or photographers can work really well for this.
